The Extraordinary Legacy Journey:

Beginning, Belonging, Being, Becoming, Befriending

5Bs Legacy Life Beginning to Befriending

Moving In

Each of us embarks on a journey characterized by various phases and transitions. At the heart of this journey lies a profound quest for understanding, connection, and growth.

As we move from Midlife (older) into our Next Fifty (elder), it is about traversing landscapes and navigating the complex terrain of human experience.

Among the myriad of mini stages that shape our trek, five pivotal concepts stand out:

  1. Beginning
  2. Belonging
  3. Being
  4. Becoming
  5. Befriending

Each of these stages have significance in shaping our lives - especially while aging confidently.

Note: Used "our" throughout ... add a "y" to 'our' to personalize the statement.
Ask, "Why is this statement important to me?" (AND remember "your" is singular and plural - offering many perspectives from reading this post. --- Why is this statement important to us?)

Beginning

Every journey starts with a second step, a moment of inception that sets the wheels in motion.
The 'Beginning' is a phase marked by anticipation, curiosity, and a sense of wonder.

It's a time when possibilities seem endless, and the horizon beckons with promise.

Whether embarking on a new career path, reframing our family & friends' involvement, or pursuing a legacy project, the beginning sketches the excitement of adventuring into the unknown.

Consider:

  • Embrace this phase with courage, resilience, and a willingness to walk with the unfamiliar
  • Navigate the challenges and opportunities that arise
  • Lay the foundation for the chapters that follow
  • Set the stage for growth and transformation

Belonging

As we journey through life, the quest for belonging emerges as a fundamental human need.
'Belonging' transcends mere physical presence; it embodies a profound sense of connection, acceptance, and community.

Whether rooted in familial ties, friendships, or broader social circles, belonging nurtures our emotional and psychological well-being and well-living.

Here, we find solace, support, and shared experiences.

Consider:

  • Cultivate a sense of belonging framed by caring, hospitality, and mutual respect
  • Cultivate meaningful connections and deeper relationships
  • Realize belonging is a cornerstone of our identity
  • Ground self in meeting a world of constant flux

Being

'Being' is the essence of existence, the fabric of our unique identity woven through experiences, beliefs, and values.
It's a state of presence with self-awareness, where we embrace our authentic selves without reservation.

Being is about thriving, embracing our strengths, vulnerabilities, and aspirations.

As we navigate the complexities of life, consider:

  • Nurture empathy, acceptance, and gratitude for the myriad experiences that shape our journey
  • Honor our true selves with hope, grace, and faith
  • Embrace authenticity and authorship
  • Seek catalysts for personal growth, fulfillment, and inner peace

Becoming

The journey of 'Becoming' is a dynamic process of growth and self-discovery.
It's an ongoing quest for shifting knowledge to wisdom framed by transformation as we navigate the ebb and flow of life's experiences.

Becoming invites us to embrace change & transition, adoptability & adaptability, and resilience & relevance while recognizing that growth often emerges from adversity.

Consider:

  • Pursue personal aspirations
  • Overcome challenges for self-improvement
  • Redefine purpose, priorities, and fulfillment
  • Embrace opportunities with creativity and innovation

Befriending

At the heart of our journey lies the art of 'Befriending,' cultivating meaningful relationships, and fostering connections that enrich our lives.

Befriending transcends traditional notions of friendship; it embodies a commitment to mutual respect, support, and shared experiences with others outside our initial sphere of community.

Whether nurturing existing relationships or forging new connections, befriending invites us to consider:

  • Cultivate your mix of empathy and compassion
  • Foster conversations with others of different backgrounds and orientations
  • Celebrate shared experiences, whether personal, professional, communal
  • Foster a sense of significare (significant caring)
