Legacent and Values: The First Cut is the Broadest

Moving In

Here are the shared layers of values:

_Hierarchy of values - personal within
_Ethics shared - without
_Ecological - between
_Environmental - together
_Wholversical - beyond

These five "values" highlight movement that gives values a dimensional structure: where the value originates, where it operates, and how it expands.

The formulation:

Within → Without → Between → Together → Beyond

can therefore become a way of organizing the naming of values.

Shared values

The question: What if WE made values explicit?
__by collectively naming them
__and then using them to shape decisions, policies, accountability, and action like
__thinking, deciding, relating, creating, governing, mentoring, caring, learning, contributing, stewarding, and transforming?

That gives you/me/us a much larger canvas.

Hierarchy of values — Within

Personal → Within → Hierarchy of values

hierarchy of values describes the internal ordering of what matters.

What do I value, and in what order do those values guide me?

That is Within.

Ethics shared — Without

A personal value becomes ethically significant when it enters relationships.

Within: What do I value?
Without: How do I behave because I value it?

So: Hierarchy of values → Ethics shared moves from internal orientation to observable conduct.

Ethics becomes less about a rulebook and more about the shared expression of values through behaviour.

Ecological — Between

Between introduces the relationships among people, systems, places, ideas, resources, and living systems.

What happens in the relationships between the elements/essences?

This is where and when the systems orientation becomes powerful.

Within = values in the person.
Without = values in conduct.
Between = values in relationship and system.

Environmental — Together

Resist treating ecological and environmental as synonyms here.
You could give them deliberately different meanings.

Ecological = relationships and interdependence.
Environmental = the conditions and context in which those relationships exist.

What kind of environment are we creating together?

As in organization culture, physical surroundings, social conditions, economic conditions, technological conditions, and the broader conditions that shape human contribution.

About shaping and sharing the conditions under which people live together.

Wholversical — Beyond

Beyond asks what living together becomes beyond the people currently doing it.
Herein, the values become something You/I/WE leave available for others.

That makes Wholversical potentially quite significant. As in:

Wholversical — the whole becoming more than the sum of its parts, extending value beyond the immediate people, place and moment.

Or even more simply:

Beyond — what continues because we lived together.

The larger architecture

The five interactions:

Dimension
Value movement
Core question
Within
Hierarchy of Values
What matters most to me?
Without
Shared Ethics
How does what I value shape how I act?
Between
Ecological
How do our values shape relationships and systems?
Together
Environmental
What conditions are we creating together?
Beyond
Wholversical
What continues beyond us?

And so:
Name your values.
Align your governance with them.
Make decisions through them.
Hold one another accountable to them.
__//||
Start within the person.
Move into conduct, examine the relationships, shape the environment, and then ask what becomes possible beyond the immediate structural relationships and relational structures.

AND ask, Where do values go once named?

That question takes you from values-based leadership toward values-based contribution.
