Can You Describe and Explain What Hinders and Helps Your Workplace Culture for Workplace Transition 2919
Workplace Transition 2919 is a collection of thoughts from my research notebooks about workplace and transition - through the lens of the well-living workplace - with an emphasis on workplace culture (organizational culture).
It is not enough that managers and leaders understand culture and its influences on those involved, those involve must understand culture and the influence of culture on managers and leaders ...
It's two way - because culture is based on the human interactions among those involved and the resultant artifacts
The expressed perceptions, opinions, believes, assumptions about culture influence culture - that in turn influences the persons interactions in the organization of work
Culture is a central issue for those involved because:
any intervention whether big or small influences organizational strategy, structures, relationships, communication, and resource allocation.
any systematic (managing) and systemic (leading) review of the cultural variables influences the cultural variables in real time
any movement forward relies on a workable mix of learning and educating (learner and educator) - realizing a learner is an educator and an educator is a learner
And so, it's important to
Encourage the ongoing and active participation of those involved for lasting results
Identify the hindering and helping forces affecting the work
Shift the hindering forces through problem inquiry
Shift the helping forces through appreciative inquiry
Manage for meaningful transition to accomplish group related work
Lead for meaningful transition to achieve personal related work
As you realize:
Culture is about the collective, which makes it difficult for individuals to understand culture while in it
The importance to move away from group-induced conformity, where traditions shape individual behavior
When people view culture, they are viewing something outside of themselves
Without knowing what culture is and without realizing that they can influence culture, "they" sometimes (often) feel helpless
It's important to have those involved describe and explain what is hindering and helping them in their words - both internally and externally - while matching up their thoughts and feelings with what the customers/clients are saying about their experience with the organization.
Onward ... would appreciate your thoughts ))smiles
