Mentoring Workshop 1-Day

Join or Organize a 1-Day Workshop (8:00 am till 4:30 pm)

Mentoring is an educational approach that is helpful for those (the mentees) wanting to learn from the lived experience of others (the mentors). There many kinds of mentors as there are lived experiences from which to learn. However, an important storyline to follow is the readiness, ableness, and willingness of the mentor to use the correct actions of mentoring.

When a mentor moves outside the actions linked with mentoring, the mentee is often confused when the rules of the interaction shift. A case in point is when a mentor starts to facilitate, instruct or coach. Without clear delineation of the educating approach in use, the mentees' responses will vary. And the action_outcomes will be muddled.

It's important to recognize why and how mentoring and coaching are linked with leading whereas facilitating and instructing are linked with managing. Of more importance is to recognize that managing and leading are two ends of the same stick. This means there are two accompanying sticks, facilitating & mentoring, and instructing & coaching.

This one day workshop explores seven critical aspects of mentoring and the mentoring arrangement you manage and lead as a mentor. The other three educating approaches are covered to illustrate the differences and connections.

The action_outcomes assigned to the 1-Day Workshop are:

  1. Discuss the key terms, types, and benefits of serving as a mentor (mentoring)
  2. Discuss the key decision structure for serving as a mentor, accepting a mentoring request, and determining if the mentoring connection is free, paid or combination
  3. Discuss the self-concept of serving as a mentor from a lived experience perspective
  4. Discuss the effective communication requirements of a mentoring arrangement
  5. Discuss five reasons to listen consciously and share responsively as a mentor
  6. Demonstrate ways to manage continuous learning and improvement as a mentor including the pursuit of certification
  7. Discuss mentoring in connection with facilitating, coaching, and instructing
  • Use evidence-based learning and experience-based educating
  • Can use your Mentoring Challenge conversations and support for your Mentoring LogBook for the Certificate of Competence - Mentor
