Friends – A Wellth of Experiences: Life Lessons 18-07
“Friends” - such a welcoming word to describe people you know.
They abound in all areas of your extraordinary life. And yet, who are your real friends? Who are the people who will love you unconditionally?
I suggest that a lot of people you call friends are -in reality- acquaintances. They are people you are friendly with on any given day. They share time with you and you are courteous in your connection. However, are they people who really know you?
Friends know you because they have scraped away most of your mask.
They are willing to call your bluff, be there when everyone else is missing, and have you do the same for them.
Friends share friendship throughout time whether they are present or not.
Have you noticed when you get together with a friend that you haven't seen for a while, after a few minutes you slide back into that easy banter?
I thought you might enjoy celebrating the friends in your life through the following lens:
Attend to your friends when you make a mistake and explain yourself … In any given encounter with friends, you will make unintended mistakes. When they occur, own up to them and explain what happened. Friends will understand because together you will learn something more about yourselves and your friendship.
Adjust living your life continuously with your groups of friends … As you interweave your life with friends, you will benefit from the great lives they are living with others. Think of the rich ideas -now present- because of your interaction with friends and their friends. Your friends can offer new and exciting 'things' to your life.
Review the ethics of your friendship because more than your friends count on it … Your mutual expressions of trust, respect, caring, and fairness with friends through the community you grow means everyone is responsible for their ideas and actions with one another and with those you encounter together.
Challenge your own genius for there is much to learn from your friends … With every friendship connection, genius is present. Your friends are one of your many life educators. Be open to what they can help you learn about yourself, them, and the world around you.
Surround yourself with some skeptical friends … It will become boring if you and your friends all see the world in the same way. Find friends who see the world differently. Find friends who question what is happening. Friends who offer a different perspective are friends who complement your life.
Friends come and go, like the waves of the ocean, but the true ones stay like an octopus on your face.
Sustain friends who remind you often of your humanity … Friends contribute to humanity in slightly different ways. Notice how friends contribute and be aware of what and how they live their great lives that keep you attentive to the world around you.
Have gratitude for friends who have passed you by … In living your extraordinary life, some friends will be present for a short time. And that is okay. For in your time together, they shared what they could and your celebration of that fact means you recognized your friendship, which supports -even more- the friends you have now.
Develop diverse interests with your different friends … With so much to learn and love in this world, your different friends offer you access to many activities. Joining them in what they like to do shows you care and might even surprise you in discovering something you will bring into your life.
Celebrate your friends as they nourish your soul … Each time friends are present, whether in thought or in reality, they join you on your life path. They feed you in actualizing your life purpose. They are your present of the present. Friends inspire your soul and your light shines brighter because of it.
Notice yourself when friends make their mistakes in your friendship … Friends -like you- will also make mistakes. Let them explain. And as you listen, notice what you can learn about yourself. The event you are experiencing with your friend was meant for you at that moment.
From my book Living YOUR Great Life, I thought insight #142 was applicable.
Living a great life involves writing a letter to the source of your being. In that writing reflect on whom you received support, guidance, and help from today or over the last few days. Write a few words of thank you. In doing so, your gratitude will influence others who are touched by your path of shared learning.
And finally, this issue is dedicated to my friends past, present, and future – for your friendship is welcoming in all of its ways.
To Live Well Together involves mentoring!
And, friends can be mentors.
